TEMECULA, CA —There is a group of teenage girls, aged 14-years-old and under, who have shown what it takes to become a winning soccer team this season in Temecula. Together, they have tenacity, teamwork and a belief in each other that goes beyond the soccer field.

The Girls U14 All-Stars team began as competitors, playing in the Under 14 age group for Temecula's local soccer league, Temecula Valley Soccer Association in the Fall 2021 season. The cream of the crop, each girl was invited to join the "All-Stars" under coaches Rebecca and Ken Paplanus.

TVSA celebrated its accomplishments on this year's National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

The Paplanus coaching-duo of father and daughter guided the team of bright young players through a winning streak that began in December 2021 and concluded this past weekend in Palm Desert at the Tournament of Champions.

The girls played in 5 All-Star Tournaments, including the President's Cup in Apple Valley and the Palm Desert Tournament of Champions.

"The team went 22-0 and won the championship in each of the tournaments entered," Ken Paplanus said.

"The team scored 87 goals while the defense allowed only three," Rebecca Paplanus said. "The girls did not allow a goal in the last 15 games they played."

The team also drew a great many fans, according to parents. As the post-season progressed every game the girls played became a must-see event.

"All other TVSA All-Star teams, both boys and girls from different age groups, as well as coaches and parents, cheered them on," father John Gomez told Patch.

The Palm Desert Tournament of Champions was decided after four overtime periods and ultimately in penalty kicks. The girls were victorious 5-3 (for the tournament).

"We are proud to say that the girls were not only champions on the field whenever they played, but they were also great ambassadors for TVSA and Temecula," according to the coaches. "They were respectful on and off the field to the officials and other teams, and they developed a bond amongst each other that contributed to their success."

This was a great end to the team's incredible All-Star season and congratulations to all.
