Since 1987, Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of Temecula Valley has been raising local dollars to support students in our community as a local chapter of Scholarship America’s Dollars for Scholars program.  Beginning in September, Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Temecula Valley will adopt a new name that reflects the relationship with the national organization: Temecula Dollars for Scholars.

Scholarship America was founded in 1958 by Dr. Irving Fradkin, after too many of his young patients shared with him that they would not be able to attend college due to the expense.  His campaign – “Dollars for Scholars” – started a national movement that now includes nearly 1,000 chapters across the country in addition to other programs in support of students, and has awarded more than $2.9 billion to 1.9 million students across our nation.

By changing its name to follow Scholarship America’s national standard, Temecula Dollars for Scholars will be able to take advantage of national resources for our local students – the online Student Center, accessible via our chapter’s website, matching to outside scholarships, and increased access to national scholarship dollars.

“We are excited that Temecula Dollars for Scholars has adopted the national brand into its chapter name,” said Lauren Segal, president & CEO of Scholarship America. “And we are excited about the opportunities to support Scholarship America’s Dollars for Scholars chapters, including local students, through technology and new national partnerships.”

"Twenty six years ago Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of Temecula was created by a group of Temecula Valley High School teachers, parents and community members to support the college dreams of graduating seniors. As our community has grown our foundation has grown to support Temecula Valley, Chaparral, Great Oak, Rancho Vista and Susan B. Nelson High Schools.   With the help of our very generous community we have awarded over 2.5 million dollars to students in the last 26 years. Opportunity for growth continues for our foundation as we adopt the name Temecula Dollars for Scholars. In addition to applying to our local scholarships, students will now be able to apply for national scholarships through our website. Also, our donors will have the advantage of being able to customize their scholarships based on their specific criteria. We are excited about the opportunities these changes will provide our students and donors. “said Barbara Borgeson, Temecula Dollars for Scholars president.
