• Federal prosecutors charge Tiburon man in $103M Pacific Private collapse (thearknewspaper.com) — A Tiburon resident who founded Novato-based Pacific Private Money has been charged in federal court with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering after his real-estate lending funds collapsed, leaving investors with heavy losses. Federal prosecutors and the SEC allege he moved money between funds, misled investors about returns, and used millions for personal expenses, while regulators and local authorities continue working to recover what they can.
   

• A coyote somehow swam two miles to Alcatraz, vanished before cameras could find him again, and DNA in his droppings revealed he had crossed from Angel Island, not nearby San Francisco as biologists ex (scienceblog.com) — Coyotes that first swam from Tiburon across Raccoon Strait to Angel Island have now produced a population whose DNA links one adventurous animal to an even longer swim out to Alcatraz. Biologists are using scat samples and long-term studies to understand how these strong-swimming predators are reshaping nearby island ecosystems and seabird colonies in the Bay.
