Linda Barnett appointed as new council member for Torrance's 4th District (dailybreeze.com) — A longtime Torrance resident and former city treasurer, Linda Barnett, has been appointed to fill the vacant District 4 City Council seat through 2028, representing Old Torrance, the refinery area, and more than 23,000 residents. She's prioritizing fully staffed police and fire services, infrastructure upgrades, and economic development, and says she won't run when the term ends, framing herself as a short-term, experienced steward for the district.
2. Pedestrian Killed in Torrance Collision Identified (mynewsla.com) — A 27-year-old pedestrian, Yuta Sasagawa, was killed Monday night while crossing Madrona Avenue near Garnet Street in Torrance, where investigators say he was outside a marked crosswalk when struck by a northbound vehicle. Torrance police report the driver stopped, cooperated, and was not under the influence, and they're asking anyone who saw the crash to contact the Traffic Division with information.
3. A Judge Suspends Charges Against An Ex-marine Arrested On Trump's Golf Course With Ammunition (vinnews.com) — A Torrance courtroom is at the center of a closely watched case involving a former Marine arrested with a gun and ammunition at Trump's Rancho Palos Verdes golf course. A judge has suspended charges while he undergoes psychiatric evaluation, ordered him held without bail, and set a September 9 hearing at Hollywood Mental Health Court.
4. A judge suspends charges against an ex-Marine arrested on Trump's golf course with ammunition (cnn.com) — A former Marine accused of bringing a gun and ammunition to Trump National Golf Course Los Angeles is now being held for psychiatric evaluation after appearing in a Torrance courtroom. A judge ruled he's not currently fit to stand trial and transferred his case to Hollywood Mental Health Court, keeping him jailed without bail while his mental state and serious weapons charges are reviewed.
5.
