All But One Lane Closed on I-880 in Hayward After 2 Morning Collisions

A multi-vehicle accident that resulted in a fatality and a second collision in the same area has closed all but one lane on northbound Interstate Highway 880 in Hayward this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. The first accident was first reported at 2:26 a.m. near the West A Street off ramp, CHP officials said.

A sig-alert was issued at 2:38 a.m., shutting down all lanes until one right-hand lane was reopened at 3:33 a.m. The second accident was reported at 5:10 a.m. near the Winton Avenue off ramp, according to the CHP. CHP issued a second sig-alert for the area, maintaining that only one right-hand lane was open amidst the investigation of the two collisions.

There is no estimate for when the roadway will reopen.
