History Blog: Alvarado Grammar/Elementary School
The Alvarado Grammar School existed in Alvarado since 1878 and continues today as the Alvarado Elementary School.

The first schools in Alvarado were based in local homes. The first documented, purpose-built school was built in 1878 when the Alvarado Grammar School was built by the Alvarado School District. A second building was built in 1924. The current school building was built in 1958.
The Alvarado School District existed until 1965, when it was merged with the Decoto School District and part of the Washington Union School District to form the New Haven Unified School District.
The paper "The History of the Alvarado School District and the Alvarado Elementary School" covers the details of the history of district and school. It details the different school buildings, the various principals and school board members that ran the district.
