Kickin It With Pretty Women and Fly Sneakers
Local rap artists Rula and FreshJet drop new music videos.
Union City is brimming with talent. Creativity runs the streets, and rappers Trenton Blackwell, aka FreshJet!, and Raul Reyes, aka Rula, released new music videos this past week. Though they are not affiliated with one another, local videographer Alonzo Rosales did the cinematography for both videos.
Rula, a class of 2009 Logan grad and a member of the Union City-based Honorary Music crew, has been steady on his grind dropping mixtape after mixtape. His latest effort, Nothing Less Than Perfect, is slated to drop this summer. His latest single, "Kick it at My Place," is accompanied by visuals from fresh Class of 2011 grad Alonzo Rosales, whose keen eye captures our laidback lives in Union City. The track is a breezy jam void of pretension -- no slick talk about getting the baddest chicks or flashing cash. Instead, he raps about skipping school to catch a concert and then calling his friend to find out what he missed in class.
Though also shot by Rosales, the song and video for FreshJet! and Mike Cool's latest single is a contrast to Rula's track. "Pretty Women and Fly Sneakers" is a song about just that. The 20-year-old's have no qualms with boasting, and there's nothing wrong with that. A clean pair of Nikes on your feet and fly girl on your arm -- who can be mad at that?
