Top 5 Tips to Creating Unique and Inspiring Children’s Bedrooms
Tips and ideas for creating beautiful and functional children and teen bedrooms.
I absolutely love designing rooms for children and teens, since my imagination can run a bit wilder, and creativity can be pushed to higher limits. It doesn’t mean the principles of good design (and good sense) do not apply, but you can definitely push them around a bit!
1) The key to making your investment pay off is to avoid things that are so “kid like” in style or size that can only be used for a short time. Instead, acquire pieces that can grow with your child into their teen years, and maybe even beyond. Utilize good quality sturdy pieces with simple lines that can be easily painted or altered. These pieces can be easily changed in the future as your child’s likes, dislikes and interests change.
2) Think of using colors in your walls or in your accessories to bring your WOW factor! Both paint and accessories are the things that are easiest to change in a room, and the most affordable.

3) The theme or concept for the bedroom could be anything you wish, but make sure you include your child or teen’s preferences. The more they can be involved, the more they will be invested in keeping it clean and organized (at least that’s the hope!).
4) Keep the theme and colors consistent. Remember to repeat elements and colors throughout the room to keep it looking cohesive. Don’t overdo it and remember to edit, edit, edit.

5) Create a focal point (usually around the bed) and have that be the main player, while other elements play a supporting role. Paint can be used to create a focal point, and let's not forget wallpaper, which has made an amazing comeback. If you feel wallpaper is not for you, considering doing an all over stencil or a wall decal on your focal wall.
Want some more inspiration? Well, I don’t think for me there could be a more fun room to design than a “Princess Room”. And I don’t mean a Disney princess, but make your own interpretation of what your princess room would be like. Take a look at this Inspiration Board I created utilizing some elements of Indian style, and some modern elements that create this giltzy, girly Indian Princess Room.

I also started recently to work in this girl’s bedroom for three girls who must share this space. They love the Indian style, but also like vintage and traditional pieces. For them, I created this design. You’ll also see how I have stretched the budget by utilizing vintage thrift store finds (that will be painted and re-furbished) and also by utilizing and re-purposing as much as possible.
In this video you will also see the design that I created for a boy who loves cars. Again the design was created to maximize the use of space and re-use and re-purpose as much of the existing pieces available as possible. Both of these spaces are quite small, so it is very important to use your vertical space as much as possible.
Take a look and don’t forget to comment and let me know how you like these designs!
