Broken Water Main Reported in Same Location Where Sinkhole Opened

The water main break is likely related to the October sinkhole in the same area.

Update:

One lane of westbound Alvarado Boulevard in Union City has reopened, after police closed the street this afternoon as the city investigated a water main break happening in the same location where a sinkhole appeared last month. Police closed the westbound lanes of Alvarado Boulevard between Fair Ranch Road and Fredi Street after a water main break was reported around 11 a.m. at Alvarado Boulevard and New Haven Street, according to Union City spokeswoman Lauren Burch.

Crews from the Union Sanitary District were in the area, continuing to investigate a roughly 10- by 12-foot sinkhole that opened up in the center of the intersection on Oct. 14, when a crewmember noticed water leaking, Burch said.
