UNION CITY, CA – Youth and faith groups, community representatives and
advocates are invited to participate in a forum sponsored by the Youth Violence
Prevention Coalition. Union City’s Youth and Family Services programs will be
highlighted and community members will discuss issues affecting the city’s young
people.
The Youth Violence Prevention Coalition is a grassroots collective that was formed
in August 2007 when local parents, students and organizations including
Congregations Organizing for Renewal, Filipino Advocates for Justice, Union City
Pastor’s Alliance and city and school district staff came together following the
increase in youth related violence in Union City. The coalition has engaged over 700
people and was successful in getting community support for a 2008 parcel tax that
currently funds Union City’s Youth and Family Services to provide violence
prevention and intervention services.
