Young Genius is opening a new Congressional Debate class on Saturday 8th 1:30-3:30pm in Fremont.

This course is offered for 4th-5th graders. In
this class your student will play the role of a
U.S. Senator and learn a lifelong life skill!
Congressional Debate is an event offered in Middle
and High School Forensics. The goal is to simulate
the U.S. Congress, either the House or the Senate
and debate bills and resolutions of current interest.
Congressional Debate classes focus on the skills
necessary to be successful in the event. Research,
persuasive speaking, active listening, critical
thinking, accurate and extensive note taking and
cross-examination skills are all integral to the course.

After this course students will improve their ability to: Analyze debatable issues. Research topics.
Organize ideas. Make thoughtful, engaging, and clear presentations. Listen actively and take thorough notes. Refute arguments of their opponents.
Students will also learn team building as they discover the difference between simply arguing and the rules and procedures of debate.

Teacher: Joan Chang, comes to Young Genius with an undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley and is currently a third-year graduate student at UC Davis.
