- Union City,: The Eighteenth Annual Asian American Heritage Festival will be held Saturday May 21st from 11 AM to 5 PM at the Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church, 32975 Alvarado-Niles Road, in Union City. Admission is free. Food and refreshments will be available.
This year’s festival will feature live ethnic performances performed by visiting performers and local residents from Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, and other Asian Pacific countries. There will be over 200 performers, Performances include:
- Taiko Drum performances by Onami Taiko
- Thai classical dancers from Wat Buddhanusorn, the Thai Buddhist temple in Fremont.
- Steps, Styles and Spotlights - Cultural dances of the Philippines
- Belly Dance by Troupe Celene
- Hawaiian Hula Dance
- Taiwanese cultural dances by the Fremont Taiwanese School.
- Polynesian dance by Nani and Friends Polynesian Group
- Chinese classical dance by Ling Wang Dance Studio
- Scrolls of Taiko II: Drums of Noto Hanto by Wadaiko Newark

Too often today, young Asian Americans have no real understanding of the breadth of achievement and length of history that lies behind their families and ancestors. In addition, other Americans are unaware of the unique traditions, music, and art that embody different Asian heritages.
The Asian American Heritage Festival presents an opportunity for all Americans to celebrate and learn the wealth of ancient art, philosophy, craftsmanship, colorful literature and folklore that have sprung from these various cultures.
