Family Of Murdered Union City Woman Has New Hope For Closure
The body of Kathy Ann Miramontes was found in Fremont in 1982.

FREMONT, CA — A case of a Union City woman who was found murdered in Fremont in 1982 has never been solved, but there is new hope of closure for her now-adult sons.
After submitting evidence recently for DNA testing, Fremont Police said today they have reopened the case of Kathy Ann Miramontes, also known as Sweedie, whose body was found about 5 a.m. on March 8, 1982. Miramontes' body showed signs of extreme trauma.
About two and a half years ago, a new detective began reviewing the case and officially reopened it after talking with Miramontes' family.

"We know someone out there knows something," police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said. Bosques said the family would like some answers. "It's been tough to continue with their life without her," she said.
Police said the killing may be related to drug use and sales. They believe she was killed elsewhere and her body dumped in Fremont.

Miramontes was a Union City resident and she usually spent time in Union City with friends.
She left behind two boys who were 5 and 10 at the time.
Police are asking for any information about Miramontes and the case.
"We'll take anything," Bosques said. "Even if it's a tiny nugget." Police said information that may have seemed insignificant may be the missing element in solving the case.
Police are asking anyone with information about the killing to get in touch with Detective Jacob Blass at (510) 790-6963 or at coldcasedetective@fremont.gov.
Police will accept anonymous tips. The silent witness hotline is (510) 494-4856. Anonymous tips can be left online or by texting "TIP FremontPD" followed by the tip to 888-7777. Police said they do not see the email address from which the person sent the tip or the phone number of the person texting in a tip.
