Frugal Family: Deals for Teens

Check out free and low-cost classes, activities and groups for teens.

  • Deal: Try an archery lesson at Archery Only in Newark. Monday night beginning group archery lessons are $20 per person, per lesson, with three time slots available.
  • The Fine Print: Time slots are 7 p.m. to 7:40 p.m.; 7:45 p.m. to 8:25 p.m.; and 8:30 p.m. to 9:10 p.m. Reservations are required.
  • Extra, Extra: Take a private lesson with a certified instructor for $45 per hour per person.
  • Good through: Ongoing at the dates and times listed above.

  • Deal: Calling all tweens! The Union City Library offers a book club for kids in fifth and sixth grades. They can read the featured book and then head into the library to grab a snack and chat about what they read.
  • The Fine Print: The next book club meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. This month’s book is A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park. Kids can sign up for the book club at the reference desk.
  • Extra, Extra: Check out other teen activities, like , at the Union City Library,

  • Deal: Every Saturday the , 33623 Mission Blvd., offers bike repairs, screen-printing and video production. Participants can come in to get a bike tune-up, buy a new bike, learn to build a bike, volunteer to help fix up bikes or learn another trade.
  • The Fine Print: The shop is open weekly on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Extra, Extra: Stop by the teen workshop for free. You only pay if you are buying something new.
  • Good Through: Weekly on Saturdays.

  • Deal: Teens can join in the photography fun at monthly activities scheduled for the third Saturday of each month. The Fremont Art Association and Cooksey-Talbott Gallery have partnered to offer activities for beginner to advanced students.
  • The Fine Print: Activities scheduled for the third Saturday of each month. All activities are free. Visit the website for more information. 
  • Extra, Extra: The group participates in field trips, as well.
  • Good Through: Next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, at 3 p.m.

  • Deal: Teens are encouraged to attend a meeting at , located at 34009 Alvarado Niles Rd., to discuss their concerns and share ideas with the committee and Leisure Services staff, who plan activities for teens. It's a great way to get involved and make an impact on your community.
  • The Fine Print: All meetings are open to the public.
  • Extra, Extra: Teens can get involved in planning the activities they want to take part in.
  • Good through: Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 8, at 4 p.m.
