Gas Line Break Prompts Evacuations New Year's Eve

The leak cut off service to around 70 homes.

PG&E crews worked to restore service after a gas line broke in Union City Thursday, according to police. The gas line break, reported by police shortly before 5 p.m. on New Year’s eve, caused some homes in the 600 block of Tamarack Drive to be evacuated and closed the road east of Basswood Avenue to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Police said the leak, which cut off service to around 70 homes, was stopped and repairs are underway. Gas service was expected to be restored in the early morning hours.

One lane of Tamarack was reopened last night and evacuations were lifted, police said.
