Hayward Fire Crews Put Out Blaze at Former Mexican Restaurant

Fire officials say the former La Imperial Restaurant has about $50,000 worth of damage caused by the fire.

Firefighters put out a one-alarm fire Wednesday night at a shuttered Mexican restaurant in Hayward. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but investigators believe it may have resulted from an electrical problem, Fire Capt. Don Nichelson said. The commercial structure fire was reported at 10:57 p.m. at the former La Imperial Restaurant, located at 948 C St.

When crews arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the building, fire officials said. The fire was knocked down by 11:10 p.m. No injuries were reported and the blaze did not spread to nearby buildings, fire officials said.

Nichelson said the damage caused by the fire is currently estimated at $50,000. Photos posted to social media show the restaurant boarded up and closed, but Nichelson said that happened some time prior to Wednesday night’s fire.
