Hayward Police Shoot Suspect Who Injured Two Officers: Police

The confrontation started when officers approached a stolen Mercedes with two people inside, police say.

HAYWARD, CA - Police said a person who injured two officers Saturday afternoon in Hayward is hospitalized in critical condition.

Police responded at 4:42 p.m. to the 900 block of Cheryl Ann Circle on reports of an occupied stolen vehicle.

Officers located a black Mercedes, which began to intentionally ram the responding police officers' vehicles.

Officers fired their guns as the Mercedes struck an officer, who was on foot, police said.

The Mercedes collided with at least two other vehicles before coming to a stop at the intersection of Patrick Avenue and Gomer Street, where one of the suspects fled but was captured a short distance away.

A second suspect remained in the Mercedes and had apparently suffered a gunshot wound, according to police. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

At least two officers sought medical care for their injuries and both are expected to recover.

Neither the names of the suspects nor the names of the officers who fired their guns are being released at this time. The incident is currently under investigation, police said.
