Kitayama Elementary School Teacher Named 'Symetra Hero in the Classroom'

Symetra, Wells Fargo and the San Francisco 49ers honored Kitayama Elementary School teacher Jessica Morales as a “Symetra Hero in the Classroom” on Dec. 11 during a school assembly. Morales teaches second grade at the Union City K–5 school.
“Mrs. Morales is an amazing teacher, who always goes above and beyond for her students. Just because the bell rings doesn’t mean Mrs. Morales is done working. If she sees any child having difficulty with a lesson or concept, she does whatever it takes to figure out how best to meet his or her needs. She consistently puts her students’ learning and happiness before anything else,” said Kristy Tara, the parent of two of Morales’s former students. “Mrs. Morales has a way of making each child feel special. She is so creative and truly one of the kindest people I have ever met. Two of my children have been her students, and she remains their favorite teacher years after they graduated from her classroom.” Tara nominated Morales for the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom® award.
Morales is one of 16 K–12 teachers in the San Francisco Bay Area who will be honored for educational excellence in the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom program during the 2015 NFL season. Teachers are recognized in front of their students and peers at surprise in-school presentations, and they receive a $1,000 donation for classroom books and supplies. In addition, they receive tickets to a 49ers home game and a special pre-game experience at Levi’s Stadium. Morales will be recognized at the Jan. 3, 2016 game against the St. Louis Rams.
Teachers may be nominated by their principal, district staff, student or student’s parent. The winners are selected based on their ability to make a real difference in students’ lives; to go above and beyond in their day-to-day responsibilities; and to help students build life skills.
