Officials ID Man, 18, Killed in Tuesday Night Crash on I-880 in Hayward

The collision was reported at about 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, according to CHP officials.

A man killed in a crash on southbound Interstate Highway 880 in Hayward Tuesday night has been identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau as 18-year-old Dajon Thompson. Officers responded around 10:30 p.m. to a report of an accident involving at least two vehicles near the connector to state Highway 92, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Damian Cistaro.

CHP officials said an 18-year-old Hayward woman was traveling in the southbound lanes of I-880 when, for an unknown reason, she lost control of her vehicle and veered out onto the right shoulder. The Chrysler she was driving struck a concrete sound wall and continued into the right rear of an unoccupied Ford parked on the right shoulder, according to the CHP. Both vehicles sustained major damage.

Dajon, a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene and another passenger, an 18-year-old Hayward man, suffered major injuries and was transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, Cistaro said. The driver suffered minor injuries and was also transported to Eden Medical Center, CHP officials said.

A Sig-alert was issued at 10:48 p.m. Tuesday and was lifted at 12:24 a.m. when all lanes were reopened.
