Opponents Of Masonic Home Development To Hold Rally

The area meeting and rally will be held this coming Saturday.

UNION CITY, CA — The group Save Our Hills will hold an area meeting and rally this Saturday, April 29, starting at noon.

In a letter to supporters sent over the weekend, Elizabeth Ames from the group told backers, "The latest proposed Masonic Home development will span 15 years to build a hillside long-term care hospital, parking garage and surface parking and roadway entrance on the agricultural flatlands....We ask for a fiscal impact analysis of city services and ask for parklands mitigation that may be associated with the project."

Noting that long term care facilities generate a disproportionate level of fire and emergency medical response calls, the group is concerned about the fiscal impact, especially since "The Masonic Homes of California pays no property tax, the largest source of city revenues to support city services."
