Woman Steps In Front Of Train In Union City

It happened shortly before 8:30 Wednesday morning.

UNION CITY, CA — A woman stepped in front of an approaching Amtrak train and died in Union City this morning, police said.

A driver who stopped for the railroad crossing sign at Dyer Street witnessed the woman step onto the tracks in front of the train as it approached, police said.

Amtrak officials said the collision occurred at 8:19 a.m. on tracks at Alvarado Blvd., while police said they received a report of the collision at 9:17 a.m.

None of the 105 passengers or crewmembers on board were injured, Amtrak officials said.

The Amtrak Coast Starlight train was traveling from Seattle to Los Angeles, and there were no delays to other trains because of the collision.

Union Pacific Railroad police are investigating the case. The Alameda County coroner's bureau will assist with the investigation and notifying the woman's family.
