Pedestrian Struck in Hayward Parking Garage Hit-And-Run Wednesday Identified

A pedestrian who died after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Hayward on Wednesday night was identified by police today as 50-year-old Ambrocio Garcia-Jimenez. A vehicle struck Garcia-Jimenez while he was walking in a parking garage of a large industrial complex at 2660 W. Winton Ave. at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday on his way to work, police said.
The incident was reported to police by another driver who came across Garcia-Jimenez lying on the pavement, police said. Garcia-Jimenez was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, but died there on Thursday. Hayward police said they are looking for a vehicle that sustained front bumper and hood damage and possible damage to the windshield and side windows.

Sgt. Jason Carsolini said today that the incident was captured by a surveillance camera, but at this point the quality of the footage isn’t good enough for police to provide a detailed description of the suspect’s vehicle, which appeared to be a van.
