Police Say Pair Pistol-Whipped in Hayward During Early Morning Robbery

Two men were pistol-whipped during a robbery in Hayward early this morning, police said. The robbery was reported at 12:25 a.m. in the 600 block of Sycamore Avenue, Hayward police Sgt. Tasha DeCosta said.

Two men and a woman were talking at the corner of Silva and Sycamore avenues when a suspect approached and spoke with them briefly before drawing a silver handgun from his waistband, DeCosta said. One of the victims, fearing for his life, handed over his wallet, at which time the suspect struck him and the other male victim with the handgun. He did not strike the female victim, police said. The suspect then got into a dark green four-door sedan, possibly a late-model Honda Accord, which was driven by a second suspect. The men who got pistol-whipped suffered abrasions and lacerations, but declined medical assistance, according to police.

The first suspect was described as a black man about 20 years old who stands 5 foot 8 inches to 5 foot 10 inches tall. He has a skinny build was wearing a gray hooded jacket and blue pants with a silver handgun, police said. The driver was also described as a black man about 20 years old, standing 5 foot 8 inches to 5 foot 10 inches tall. He has a medium build and was wearing a green jacket when he got out of the vehicle to assist the first suspect, according to police.
