Reading Partners Needed in Union City Elementary Schools!

Seeking Volunteer Reading Tutors During and After School

Join our effort to promote children’s literacy in our community! Reading Partners is a non-profit organization that mobilizes community volunteers to provide one-on-one tutoring to elementary students who struggle with reading. We are seeking dedicated volunteers to tutor for one hour a week at Alvarado Elementary and Searles Elementary in Union City. Volunteer schedules are flexible with reading centers open Monday through Thursday, 9AM to 4:30PM. Tutors are paired with the same student all semester to build a strong mentoring relationship. No tutoring experience is required to volunteer. Tutors are provided with an easy-to-follow curriculum that includes all of the books and step-by-step lesson plans needed to teach essential reading skills. Each reading center also has a on-site staff member to support tutors and students. Reading Partners volunteers make an enormous impact: on average, students double their rate of learning while enrolled in the program. To get started, contact volunteer coordinator Monica de la Cruz at monica.delacruz@readingpartners.org.
