Officer Injured In BART-Restroom Confrontation In Fremont
The suspect was taken for psych evaluation after tampering with fire-sprinkler system and injuring officer at area station, officials said.

FREMONT, CA – A police officer was injured early Sunday morning in connection with an arrest of a Castro Valley man after he set off a sprinkler in a bathroom at a Fremont BART station, police said.
Michael Sawyer, 53, allegedly tampered with the sprinkler at about 12:40 a.m. in a bathroom at the Warm Springs BART station.
Officers who went to speak with Sawyer said he allegedly behaved erratically and resisted being detained.

Sawyer was arrested after a struggle, police allege. An officer was injured. Police said his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Sawyer was taken to Washington Hospital for a psychological evaluation.

Police placed a criminal hold on Sawyer for allegedly tampering with fire equipment, vandalism, resisting arrest, failing to register as a sex offender, a parole violation and possessing drug paraphernalia.
