Saturation Patrols Planned On Super Bowl Sunday

"Don't Fumble: Tackle Impaired Driving Before the Clock Starts."

UNION CITY, CA — Neither the Raiders nor the 49ers are in this Sunday's Super Bowl, but plenty of local football fans still plan to take in the big game - many at parties and sports bars.

Union City Police are joining law enforcement efforts to crack down on drunk driving. UCPD will have saturation patrols that day.

"Be sure to have a game plan for the evening so friends and family know who will be the designated driver," said Chief Darryl McAllister of the Union City Police Department. "We want to encourage folks to turn over their keys to a sober driver before the game begins. Impaired driving can result in serious crashes, injuries or death. If you don’t have a sober driver with you during Super Bowl festivities, consider other ride options."

If no one wants to be the DD, call a cab or order a ride from Uber, Lyft or Curb.

Extra personnel costs for the saturation patrol will be covered by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration who reminds everyone to be alert and ‘Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911’!

UCPD says, "This Super Bowl weekend, be a team player and help keep impaired drivers from getting behind the wheel. Don’t fumble! Designate your sober driver before the big game begins. And remember: Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk."
