Speed Possibly To Blame For Crash That Sent 22-Year-Old To Hospital

The accident shut down portion of Paseo Padre Parkway.

FREMONT, CA - Speed may have been a factor in a car crash that sent a 22-year-old man to the hospital with major injuries Sunday night in Fremont, according to police.

At 10:16 p.m., officers responded a report of a solo vehicle crash on southbound Paseo Padre Parkway, just south of Sequoia Road, police said. Upon arrival, officers found a mid-1990s Lincoln Town Car severely damaged after crashing into a tree. The driver, a Fremont resident, was extricated from the vehicle and taken to a hospital with major injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to police.

A witness told officers that just prior to the crash, he saw two vehicles quickly accelerate at Paseo Padre Parkway when the traffic light turned green. As the witness traveled southbound on Paseo Padre Parkway and came to a curve in the road, he saw one of the involved vehicles had crashed into a tree.

The second driver initially left the scene but returned a short time later and is cooperating with the investigation, police said. Following the crash, officers closed Paseo Padre Parkway, between Sequoia Road and Peralta Boulevard, for nearly eight hours.

At the scene, officers found skid marks indicating speed may have been a factor. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to police.
