Union City 5th Grader Qualifies for Regional Spelling Bee

The Pioneer Elementary School student is one of 50 competitors chosen.

UNION CITY, CA — Fifth grade Pioneer Elementary student, Maneesha Nair, has made it to the regional finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

In the written semi-final on Feb. 10, she competed with 191 students, from elementary to 8th grade, from all around the Bay Area. She is one of only 50 students to make it to the final, which will be in oral format.

The finals will take place on March 17, at the KPIX studios in San Francisco, and the competition will be broadcast live on the KPIX website.
