Union City Awards Contract for Decoto Green Street Project
Union City is one of four Northern California cities that was awarded a $734,000 grant for the project.

Information submitted by City of Union City:
City staff take another step forward in preparation for the Decoto Green Street Project rolling out this summer. Last week, City Council awarded a contract to Star Construction to begin work on the first of three Green Street Projects. The streetscape improvement elements of this project addresses water quality concerns, while transforming the street into a more pedestrian-friendly, aesthetic environment.
The project taking place along C Street between 6th and 9th Streets will include the installation of landscaping, irrigation, street trees, rain gardens, pervious pavers and improved intersections. Union City chose the Decoto District due to its aging street infrastructure, poor flood control and need for beautification.

Union City is one of four Northern California cities that was awarded a $734,000 grant from the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) to fund this project. Proposition 84, a 2006 bond act funding water quality and supply initiatives throughout the State, allows for the CNRA to distribute these grant funds through the Urban Greening for Sustainable Communities Program.
Union City was successfully awarded this grant after showcasing that the Decoto Green Street Project will create a green space and a natural system in an urban area, such as the Decoto District. The City will match the grant with $500,000 in City funds. Two additional Green Street Projects will be implemented over the next 3 years in the Decoto District.
