UNION CITY, CA — The Union City Police Department will seek City Council approval next week to continue using equipment that has been labeled military grade by the state government. This includes everything from drones to command vehicles.

"At this time, UCPD does not intend to acquire additional types of military equipment and forecasted purchases for UCPD in 2023 only include additional ammunition and chemical agents which need to be replenished after being used in either the field or training environments," the department said. "All items needing to be replenished are included in the policy and attached inventory which were previously approved by the City Council."

The City Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on May 9.
