Anonymous Call Prompts High School Lockdown, No Threat Found

James Logan High School was locked down for more than an hour Friday afternoon.

A lockdown at a Union City high school was lifted this afternoon after police determined an anonymous 911 phone call that warned of a shooting on campus had no validity. At 12:38 p.m., a 911 dispatcher received an anonymous phone call from a person who told the dispatcher there would a shooting at James Logan High School, located at 1800 H St., according to police.

The police department, working with New Haven School District staff, responded to the school and placed the students on lockdown, as a precaution, police said. Officers conducted a search on the campus. No threats were found and police lifted the lockdown at 3:25 p.m., according to police.

Police are continuing to investigate the phone call. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Union City police at (510) 471-1365. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can call (510) 675-5207.

Union City Police have given the all-clear at Logan High School. The lockdown has now been lifted.

James Logan High School remains on lockdown. A police department watch commander says the school is still being searched. She does not have an estimate of how much longer it will take.

James Logan High School is currently on lockdown. Nearby residents report hearing an alarm sounding, and a helicopter overhead.

According to the police department:

UCPD is investigating an unverified threat that was called into police pertaining to a threat at James Logan HS. The school has been locked down as a pre-caution only.

Please do not respond to the area as we expect the campus will return to normal within the hour.
