Union City Home Damaged By Fire

UNION CITY, CA — A Union City house fire that started in a kitchen was quickly doused by Alameda County firefighters on Thursday. No injuries were reported.

Accoring to the fire department, cooking is the leading cause of house fires.. The department offers these tips to avoid a fire:

• keep flammable objects away from stove burners
• keep the stove and oven clean, avoiding grease build-up
• use a timer so that you don't forget items that are cooking
• be alert, checking periodically on food
• supervise children
• beware of grease
• never put water on a grease or oil fire
