Union City Police Capture 2 Burglary Suspects

BREAKING: A nearby worker phoned police to report the suspects trying to pry open a door.

UNION CITY, CA — An alert neighbor called police to report a burglary in progress Sunday morning. Police ended up in a foot chase with the suspects.

It happened at a business on Western Avenue in Union City. A worker at a neighboring business spotted the suspects trying to pry open a rear door, according to police. Officers arrived within minutes. The suspects took off running when they saw police.

According to a written statement, "The suspects jumped a fence leading into a storage yard and one suspect ran into the waiting arms of Sgt. Brian Baumgartner, who went to the yard anticipating the suspects may run that direction. That suspect initially attempted to get away but was taken into custody. Officers believed the second suspect was still inside the yard and called the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office's K-9 unit to assist with the search. The K-9 team located the second suspect hiding in nearby bushes and took him into custody."
