Union City Police Credit Alert Neighbor For Catching Car Thieves

Police say the stolen car was packed with items stolen in Union City and Hayward burglaries.

UNION CITY, CA - Union City Police are crediting an alert neighbor with solving a car theft and several burglaries.

The resident spotted two males sitting in a car with paper license plates. The resident heeded the police department's frequent saying, "If you see something, say something" and called police.

Two police officers arrived and began talking with the pair. The driver suddenly started the car and sped off. The pair abandoned the car on Whipple, but officers apprehended the two.

The neighbor's gut instinct was right--the car was stolen from a dealership in Milpitas. Inside the vehicle were items stolen in Union City and Hayward burglaries, according to police.

Electronics, tools and other items were recovered.

Both males were arrested and charged with multiple crimes.
