Union City Police Seize Sawed-Off Rifle

The weapon was taken from a gang member who was on probation, according to police.

UNION CITY, CA — Union City Police seized a sawed-off rifle from a 22 year old driver who was on probation over the weekend.

It started with a traffic stop for a broken taillight by Officer Jeff Willson and his K-9 partner Ace.

The semiautomatic rifle was loaded and had "been sawed off to make it shorter and easier to conceal," according to police.

Police did not identify the driver on probation, but say, "Officers found additional illegal items in the car, which included evidence that the driver and his two passengers were associated with a street gang. Pretty scary to think what might have happened if this loaded rifle was not recovered."
