Union City School Locked Down for Around 2 Hours for Burglary Suspect Search
The school was released from lockdown around 1 p.m., school officials said.

Police searching for a burglary suspect in Union City kept an elementary school locked down and asked nearby residents to shelter-in-place for around two hours this afternoon, police and school officials said. Police informed staff at Tom Kitayama Elementary School 1959 Sunsprite Drive of the search and ordered a lockdown at about 11 a.m., according to New Haven Unified School District officials.

The burglary suspect was not suspected to be on campus and the lockdown was a precaution, officials said. Police searched the campus at about 12:15 p.m. without finding the suspect. Police said that residents in the area of Medallion Drive, Claremont Street and Sheffield Lane were also asked to stay inside.

The school was released from lockdown around 1 p.m., Mattos said. Students were sent home at their usual time of 2:05 p.m. School district officials sent a message to parents informing them of the situation. All students and school staff are accounted for and safe, Mattos said.
