• Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo's Landfill Safety Act Becomes Law (hometownstation.com) — New landfill safety and transparency laws inspired by the Chiquita Canyon crisis aim to better protect Val Verde residents from dangerous underground fires and toxic emissions. Starting January 1, 2027, the state will require earlier monitoring, tougher enforcement, public methane data, and a new community fund that can provide direct financial help to affected households near the landfill.
