2nd Annual Girl Scout Powder Puff Derby

Mar Visa Girl Scout Troop 925 (Cadettes) hosted the Girl Scout Marina Service Unit 2nd Annual Powder Puff Derby on Saturday, January 12th at Mark Twain Middle School.

What is a Powder Puff Derby?  Modeled after the Boy Scouts of America's Pinewood Derby, it is a group of Girl Scouts racing little wooden cars of various shapes and colors on little plastic wheels down a 32' plywood track.  Each Girl Scout gets a kit with a block of wood, four nails for axles, and four plastic wheels.  Then, based on the rules, she shapes and paints her block of wood into a form to race down the track.

This year, over 100 girls that participated in the derby.  From Daisy's to Cadettes, each level raced against their own level.  The top three winners received medals and the first place winners of each level moved on to the championship round where the winning cars from the Daisy's, Brownies, Juniors, and Cadettes completed for the top prize.
