Art Opening - Maxwell Coppola "I Went To Collage For The Wrong Thing"

"Bacon" digital print, acrylic paint, 45"x30"

Trunk Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by

Maxwell Coppola. Opening reception will take place Thursday, December 19, 7-10pm.  The show will run through December 22.

Maxwell Coppola creates media artworks, paintings, sculptures and installations. By using popular themes such as sexuality, nostalgia, family structure and violence, Coppola tries to approach a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered way. His media artworks often refer to pop and mass culture. Using written and drawn symbols, a world where light-heartedness rules and where rules are undermined is created. By parodying mass media by exaggerating certain formal aspects inherent to our contemporary society, he makes works that can be seen as self-portraits.

Coppola's works directly respond to the surrounding environment and uses everyday experiences from the artist as a starting point. Several reoccurring subject matter can be recognized, such as the relation with popular culture and media, working with repetition, provocation and the investigation of the process of expectations.

His works are saturated with obviousness, mental inertia, clichés and bad jokes. Maxwell Coppola currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
