Black is the Color of Fertility

Black is the Right Color for a Gardener's Car

I bought this car on Monday. It's a 2004 Nissan Sentra, the color of black, which is the color of fertility.

The gardener drives a black car because this resonates with the strength of the soil underneath. Blue is cold and clear. Red is hot. Green is pallid. Silver and gold are dull. Yellow is over the top. No, the best color for a gardener's car is black.

I bought this beauty from a private party in Santa Barbara. Then we drove over to the beach at Goleta Pier and took this photo.

I carry a lot of tools in the trunk  -- loppers, pruners, gloves, tree saws, trowels, shovels, a broom and a rake, some tools for simple carpentry and mechanics, duct tape, WD-40, rope, twine, tarps, a 100-foot tape measure, ax, crow bar, machete, insect repellent, sun block, a change of clothes in case I get all wet and muddy, a frisbee for fun, swimming shorts from Patagonia and a towel, two wool blankets and a small sleeping bag, two rain coats, a roll of plastic bags, jumper cables, and a few books.

I guess that's most of it. But you can't see the tools and stuff, they're all in the trunk to keep the car pretty.
