Join author Alexandra Anton for a book signing of her debut novel Santiaga: A Freedom Tale, a moving story that reimagines the classical quest for enlightenment by telling a woman’s hero journey.
For centuries, some of the most influential stories of spiritual awakening have centered on men who temporarily leave behind family, responsibility, and earthly attachments to pursue enlightenment. In Santiaga, Anton turns that familiar narrative upside down.
The story loosely follows the plot of two classic texts: Hermann Hesse’s novella, Siddhartha, and the first written account of a female Buddha, Yeshe Tsogyal from 8th century Tibet. Anton was also partially inspired by a 2023 news story about three women who accused a Buddhist leader of a 2009 sexual assault in upstate New York.
“I was captivated by what happens when women place absolute trust in spiritual teachers, who then betray their pure, spiritual intentions,” she said. “I wanted to tell an alternative story of female spiritual empowerment that rings true for women living today.”

<ul><li>Miyo (Host): Moth StorySLAM Champion, storyteller, comedian, and the producer behind You Say What! She brings a little cultural confusion, a lot of curiosity, and stories that may make you say, “WHAT?!”</li><li>Bernadette Birkett: An alumna of Chicago’s The Second City (1975–1978), Bernadette Birkett starred alongside Jim Belushi in Sexual Perversity in Chicago before NBC brought her to Los Angeles in 1980 for the pilot Nothing But Comedy. She went on to play Jackie Schumaker on It's Garry Shandling's Show.</li><li>Chris Korbel: An NYC transplant who has called LA home for more than 30 years, Chris has performed all over the country—and still can’t find a good corned beef sandwich. He’s bringing his stories, his humor, and probably his complaints to the stage.</li><li>Doyle Smiens:Actor, storyteller, educator, and lifelong theater guy, Doyle grew up in a tiny Iowa town where there were more cows than people and everyone knew everyone’s business. Basically, he had no choice but to become a storyteller.</li><li>Jade-Lin Chue: She can boost your credit score by 100 points—and make you laugh! She’s toured across the U.S. and returns to NYC for NYCF this November, followed by producing a show at the Gay Games in Vegas this January.</li><li>Pam Noles: Former cop reporter, columnist, stage manager, and Moth StorySLAM winner, Pam has a lot of stories—and a very entertaining way of telling them.
