Black and white photography maintains its status as the most popular photographic style for several reasons: the simplicity of black and white, the natural contrast that is created and the way it focuses on the picture’s emotion, content and meaning.

This show is an exploration of black and white photography's potential on aesthetic, technical and conceptual levels. On exhibit is a broad range of innovative photographs that the artists use to reveal the subjective undercurrent that the camera captures. The artists featured in this exhibition, using both standard film and digital processes, display work comprising contemporary documentary, fine art and conceptual practice.
Even with technological innovations, the emotional and creative impact of these photos is still strongly and immediately apparent. The photographers use the various formats to their advantage, and the absence of color actually becomes its primary strength.
