The Los Angeles Recorder Orchestra (LARO) features the music of Edvard Grieg (1843 – 1907) in its next program. It will perform on Sunday, September 23, 2 p.m. at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church, 3590 Grand View Blvd. in Mar Vista and Sunday, September 30, 4:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1231 East Chapman Ave. in Fullerton.
Ja, vi elsker dette landet! Yes, we love this land (Norwegian) is the title of the concert, conducted by music director, Thomas Axworthy. The 25-member LARO group, performing on recorders varying in size from the 9 inch sopranino to the 8 foot tall subcontrabass, will play Aus Holberg’s Zeit, a suite of five movements based on 18th century dance forms, Anitra’s Dance and In the Hall of the Mountain King from the Peer Gynt Suite, Varen (The Last Spring), Canon a 4 Voci and The Goblin’s Bridal Procession from Grieg’s peasant dances.

The programs will also include selections from Georg Philipp Telemann’s Wassermusic, and from the Twentieth century, In the Mood (made famous by Glen Miller), Tom Brown’s Opening Oriental and other surprises.
