Free Fitness Classes, Gjelina in the News and Neighborhood Watch

News and notes for June 6, 2011.

Welcome Revolution Fitness to Venice! The Santa Monica-based spinning and yoga studio has opened a new location at 2321 Abbot Kinney Blvd. Revolution Fitness is celebrating its grand opening with a week of free classes, June 6 through 12. Check the website for details and a full schedule.

Another Abbot Kinney business has been making news lately. Gjelina hit the pages of the L.A. Times last week, when Victoria Beckham's request to have the smoked trout salad sans dressing was "politely declined." Beckham was dining with reality-TV restaurateur Gordon Ramsay, who dished to the Times about the incident. Gjelina has a no substitutions policy, which apparently applies to everyone, including pregnant celebrities.

Mark your calendar for Thursday, when the Venice Neighborhood Council will offer a Neighborhood Watch training session. The event, called "," will teach residents about the power of Neighborhood Watch, as well as introduce senior lead officers and Pacific Division Capt. Jon Peters.

Speaking of keeping an eye on crime, real estate website Trulia has launched a "heat map" of crime in major cities across the country. You can check out Los Angeles' hot spots here. The map is only for big cities at this point, though, so Santa Monica has been left off, leaving Venice with a blank area to our north. Still, pretty interesting.
