Venice High baseball and softball teams open their season with victories.

The softball squad hosted Hollywood in the Lincoln Classic on Saturday morning. The Gondoliers' bats were alive, racking up an impressive 13 runs on their way to a 13-5 win. They were scheduled to take on Los Angeles Fremont later in the day.
Meanwhile, the baseball team had to wait for its eagerly anticipated season opener. The Gondoliers were supposed to start their season at home Friday against King-Drew Medical. However, that game was postponed due to rain.

Venice took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, then scored two pivotal runs in the fourth that proved to be the difference in the 3-2 victory. The Gondoliers made up their game with King-Drew Saturday and play Bell next.
