Jewish Community Foundation names David Carroll as Chief Financial Officer
Newly Appointed Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration Possesses Extensive Nonprofit Management, Public Policy Experience

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 1, 2015)—The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles (The Foundation), the largest manager of charitable assets and planned-giving solutions for Los Angeles Jewish philanthropists, today announced the appointment of David Carroll as senior vice president of finance and administration and chief financial officer. Carroll brings to his new position a diverse background in finance and operating roles across the nonprofit sector, including direct community foundation experience.

In addition to his professional experience in finance and operations, David possesses a broad, deep understanding of policy and research in the public and nonprofit sectors. With The Foundation’s continued growth—recently surpassing $1 billion in total assets under management and distributing $1 billion in grants over the past 25 years alone—David brings to bear important skill sets to lead our finance and investment functions.”
Carroll joins The Foundation from Playworks, a national nonprofit focused on promoting youth recreational activity and fitness, where he served as chief financial officer. In that capacity he directed the finance, human-resource and information-technology functions for an organization with a $30 million annual operating budget and 23 regional offices.

Earlier, Carroll held the positions of chief financial officer and chief operating officer for the Community Foundation of Sonoma County for three years, where he led the financial planning and budgeting functions and staffed an investment committee with oversight of approximately $100 million in assets.
He previously served as director of finance and operations for the California Association of Food Banks. Additionally, Carroll worked as research director for the California Budget Project and finance policy director for the California Association of Public Hospitals.

Carroll holds a master’s degree in public policy from University of California, Berkeley, where he also earned a professional accounting certificate. He was conferred a bachelor of science in molecular biology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
