Volunteer with the Beauty Bus Foundation

The Beauty Bus Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for chronically or terminally ill people and their caregivers by bringing beauty into their lives. Beauty Bus provides in-home beauty and grooming services, free of charge, to men, women and children whose illness or condition prevents them from accessing a salon or spa. Beauty Bus strives to empower our clients, help them maintain dignity and give them respite during difficult times.

Ways to volunteer with Beauty Bus

Beauty Professionals: Licensed hair dressers, nail technicians and estheticians, as well as professional make-up artists, who perform Beauty Bus treatments during In-home visits or Pop-Up Salons. Please note that we offer compensation to our Beauty Professionals for their work at In-Home Visits.

Beauty Buddies: Compassionate non-beauty professionals to attend visits and Pop-Up Salons to bring smiles and laughter. Beauty Buddies are the liaisons between clients, Beauty Professionals and Beauty Bus Foundation staff. They help to create a salon or spa environment during treatments.

Beauty Ambassadors: Office, event and fundraising volunteers to help “drive” the necessary work that keeps Beauty Bus going. Beauty Bus asks Beauty Ambassadors to commit to a regular schedule for at least a 6 month period or agree to complete an assigned project. From what I understand this option is probably the type of volunteer opportunity you are looking for. If you would like to further discuss the types of tasks we have, please feel free to contact me.

We ask that participants commit to one in-home visit or pop up salon event per month. Beauty Bus Foundation serves people all over LA County but we do not expect you to travel in excess of 10 miles from your home or place of employment.

All Beauty Bus participants must attend a Beauty Bus training before they can go out on visits to service our clients and caregivers. The 2 hour training is an overview of Beauty Bus policies and principles, information about the physical and emotional implications of being chronically or terminally ill, as well as disease specific information. There is also an activity that takes them through hypothetical situations that could occur while volunteering for Beauty Bus.
