Mar Vista Thrift Store Makeover Draws the Crowds
Following two weeks of renovations to spruce up the shop, the National Council of Jewish Women's Mar Vista Thrift Store held its grand re-opening on Saturday.
On Saturday, February 12, the National Council of Jewish Women Thrift Shop held a grand reopening of its store on Venice Blvd. It was the first makeover for the Mar Vista store since it opened in 2001. Bob Klausner, is director of retail operations for NCJW and said they managed to remodel the store in just two weeks, giving the entire place a fresh look and neatly organizing donated items for purchase.
With a total of nine stores throughout the city, the NCJW was voted “Best Thrift Shop” and “Best Thrift Shop Appraisal” in Los Angeles Magazine in 2009.
Saturday's grand reopening coincided with the NCJW's "Best of the Best" sale at the store. Specialty items are saved and shipped from all nine stores to showcase designer shoes and clothing, estate furniture, beautiful housewares and fine jewelry. The “Best of the Best” sales are held six times a year at various thrift shop locations.

“The key to the council thrift shops is that they are the major support mechanism of the NCJW that helps women, children and families in need and at risk throughout the Los Angeles community,” said Klausner.
Established almost a century ago, the NCJW is a grassroots, volunteer organization that strives for social justice by improving people's quality of life, and advocating on such issues as child welfare, women's rights and reproductive freedom. They offer counseling and support services for women, and arts/literacy programs for youth.
