The Getty Center, which has a number of pieces in its collection from the Classical period, is also running an exhibition at present that features art inspired by mythology.
“Gods and Heroes: European Drawings of Classical Mythology” is on display at the Getty Center Museum, in an exhibit that opened November 9, 2013 and runs through February 3, 2014. The exhibit will give the visitor the opportunity of closely studying the way European artists have interpreted figures from Classical (meaning Greek and Roman) mythology.

The exhibit covers 400 years of works, reflecting changing art styles and outlooks in European culture. Some of the works display pastoral loveliness while others highlight the violence that lurks in some mythological stories. Not all things are brightly sunny in classical mythology.
The Getty Center is free for visitors once your arrive (parking however, does come at a cost). The Museum is open Tuesday through Fridays, and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On Saturdays, it is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is closed on Mondays. From the parking at Getty Center Drive, you can take the tram up to the Museum and enjoy its open plaza and staggering view of the Los Angeles Basin.
