Power Outages Affects Thousands

As the heat wave peaks, thousands are left without power due to downed wires in Pacific Palisades and West LA circuit problems.

Nearly 5,000 Department of Water and Power customers were without power tonight due to wires down in Pacific Palisades and problems with two other circuits in West Los Angeles and near Exposition Park.

The power outage in Pacific Palisades was affecting about 2,000 customers, while the circuit problems in West Los Angeles and near Exposition Park left about 1,000 customers in each area without power, according to Kim Hughes of the DWP.

Individual transformer problems were also affecting other customers scattered throughout the Los Angeles area, Hughes said.

Hughes said she couldn’t predict how quickly power could be restored.

“We have no ETAs right now,” Hughes said.

However, the circuits are more easily repaired than individual transformers which are more labor intensive, Hughes said.

Hughes also reminded customers that even once power is restored, they may have to reset circuit breakers and surge protectors before they can begin using appliances and other electrical equipment.

The cause of the outages was under investigation, Hughes said.
